In a recent blog, we discussed JB water-based adhesives’ uses and advantages. JB adhesives are a line of water-based pressure sensitive adhesives. They can be used for a variety of applications including tape, label and specialty packaging. Let’s take a closer look at considerations to make when applying JB adhesives:
Typical Drying Considerations
Typical JB water-based adhesive drying equipment is zoned convection ovens. In most applications, the first zone is set to a lower temperature to prevent adhesive skinning. Then, the temperature is increased in subsequent zones to complete drying.
It is important to note:
- Each application must have customized oven and dwell times.
Press Side Additives
Aziridines are commonly used as cross linkers. This will increase cohesive strength and deaden the tack to make a product more removable.
It is also recommended to add the following items:
- Defoamer: Add to unformulated products. This can be added in small amounts to some formulated products, optimizing runnability.
- Surfactant: Add to improve wet out when applying the adhesive to low surface energy substrates.
