Bostik’s New Resealable Adhesives for Flexible Packaging

Flexible packaging has quickly become the most economical method to package, preserve and distribute food, consumables and other products. This is due in large part to flexible packaging’s barrier properties tailored to fit the products being packaged and their end-uses.

As a result, the flexible packaging market continues to change its shapes, sizes, appearances and features. Likewise, Bostik innovates its flexible packaging adhesives in conjunction with the market.

Ideal for a niche market, two adhesives in particular are acrylic, water-based pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) with broad FDA-clearance. Approved for direct food contact, these products passed various testing protocols to receive these clearances.

Let’s take a closer look at the value these flexible packaging adhesives bring to the market.

Resealability

Both JB018 and JB020 have reseal strengths that range from 100 – 150 grams per inch, depending on the substrate. With an ability to be used in removable applications, these PSAs also feature a smooth magnetic peel. This aspect appeals to end-use consumers, because the peel is not noisy or tough to open.

Machinability

JB018 and JB020 offer good machinability. With gravure applied processing, these resealable adhesive products are easy to use. This helps streamline manufacturing processes, saving time and money.

Environmentally Friendly

These resealable, flexible packaging adhesives are water-based. As a result, they have low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in their formulations. This makes them safe to use and not harmful to people’s health or the environment.

JB018 and JB020 are essentially the same formulation. However, JB018 offers slightly less tack than JB020. This means that JB018 is better suited for applications that require less reseal strength.
