SMP Featured Product Series: Bostik’s STR220A Multipurpose Sealant

Bostik has published several blogs on Silyl Modified Polymer (SMP)  technology, but now let’s look at a product in particular:

STR220A, Multipurpose Sealant

What is it?

Bostik STR220A is a high quality all-purpose sealant suitable for making elastic constructive joints and elastic sealings, especially in buses, caravans and trailer construction.

Why is it beneficial?

This product is a multipurpose sealant, so it can be used for a variety of applications in several types of transportation vehicles. Additionally, STR220A is a Silyl Modified Polymer (SMP), which means it does not chalk, crack or shrink over time when the sealant is exposed to harsh environmental conditions. What to Use it On:

In general, STR220A adheres well without primer on clean, dry, dust and grease free substrates of aluminium, stainless steel, galvanized steel, zinc, copper, brass, powder coated metal, most lacquered metal surfaces, glass, PVC, polyester (GRP) and painted and lacquered wood.

How to Use It:

STR220A is a sealant that easily can be extruded with a hand or air pressure gun at temperatures between 41°F to 95°F. In sealing applications, STR220A should be tooled or smoothened within 10 minutes using a spatula or putty knife, occasionally moistened with a soap solution. Avoid allowing the soap solution to penetrate between the joint sides and sealant, since that will create a loss of adhesion. In bonding applications, the substrates have to be assembled within 20 minutes after applying STR220A.
