Tape and Label Q&A: Market Development Manager Kerri Kilbourne Discusses the Tape and Label Market

Bostik is a leader in the tape and label adhesives market. In addition to improving manufacturing efficiencies and enhancing brand aesthetics, our products meet customers’ evolving needs.

Kerri Kilbourne, Bostik’s Market Development Manager, sat down with us to discuss the market.

Q: What is your role at Bostik in regards to the tape and label market?

A: For the past three years, my role at Bostik has been as Market Development Manager. I’m responsible for leading the effort to set our strategy with respect to the tape and label market. I also lead a cross-functional team to develop new products, find appropriate applications for our existing products and understand where technology and the general market are going. It’s a great role!

Q: Why do you like this market?

A: The business of tapes and labels is exciting because each application presents its own challenges and keeps companies motivated to continue innovating. I like having the chance to work closely with our customers, learn more about their businesses and where they see the market going as well.

Each year, we attend PSTC, TLMI and Label Expo. These events give us a great opportunity to reach our customers on another level and connect with them even further.

Q: How does Bostik fit into the tape and label market?

A: Bostik is a leader in the tape and label adhesives market. We’re best known for our incredible portfolio of hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesives, but we also offer other technology options. Our team has more than 100 collective years of industry experience, so when you need an answer, we’re here for you!

Q: What are some new trends emerging?

A: Companies are always looking at ways to become more efficient and cost-effective. We’re seeing more “all-in-one” coating and converting lines in the field. We’re also seeing that components of tapes and labels do not always have to be “best-in-class”. Therefore, more cost-effective components are finding their way into various applications. We’re also seeing shift in technology with investment in new equipment and capabilities.

Q: What do you think are some of the market’s greatest strengths? alprazolam 0.25mg tablet online https://www.veterinary-practice.com/

A: The tape and label market is fairly mature with a lot of very experienced players. The products they make are used in applications throughout several markets. Just think about how many labels you see from packages you receive in the mail to products you buy at the market. Then think about the tapes and labels you don’t see on a regular basis – under the hood of your car, under the floors of an airplane, on the highways on which you drive! They’re everywhere, and because they can be more cost-effective than alternatives, tapes are being considered in place of other mechanical fasteners more and more.

Q: What are some of the market’s great challenges?

A: One of the challenges we’re seeing is that as customers look to reduce cost and SKU count, they’re not always servicing more “specialty applications” with the right products. Commodity type products work in many applications but are not always sufficient for higher performance applications. It’s a delicate balance to offer the right products at prices that work in the market. Bostik looks to partner with our customers to make sure all of the performance requirements are met for each application.

Q: What does Bostik’s future look like in the tape and label market?

A: Bostik has an extensive team dedicated to the tape and label market. We understand where the market is going, and we are planning for that future state. Whether we’re looking at trends like liner-free labels or higher coat weight tapes (or anything in between!), our team is prepared to support our customers and their customers moving forward.
